Goal Based Outcomes

The Goal Based Outcomes (GBO) is a type of ASSESSMENT TOOL.

The Goal Based Outcomes measure is used to identify what parents and children want to achieve from their contact with the service and measure how far they have achieved their goals.

Goals could include 'Getting through a whole day at school', or 'Cope with my child's tantrums'.  The Goal Based Outcomes measure should be used by the parent/carer of children and young people, or young people aged 11-16 years.  It is used at assessment where the respondent is asked to list 3 goals and rate how close they are to reaching each of these.  At six months or case closure, the respondent is asked again to rate how close they are to these goals.

Identifying the goals is done in free text.  Rating how close the respondent is to these goals is done on a 10-point scale, where 0 is furthest away from reaching the goal, and 10 is achieving the goal.
